Meditation Mondays: Releasing the Outcome

Whether it's a thriving fulfilling career, happiness, an exciting romantic partnership, a strong healthy body, more confidence, to buy a boat, to lay on exotic beaches around the world, start a business, have tons of cash in the bank, etc., we should be unapologetic and excited about the things we desire.

The catch is that once we're clear about what we want, we have to then let go of the attachment to the outcome. To clarify, this doesn't mean giving up the goal or vision, but rather than getting locked into things turning out a specific way, we must be open to HOW everything unfolds and what it looks like. In order to do that, we have to maintain a deep sense of trust and patience.

If we try to control or push to make something happen, more times than not, we're met with resistance. If we get caught up in the timing of things happening, (it's not happening fast enough or when we want it to, or it has to be in "this" time), we set ourselves up for a trip down a negative spiral or we create overwhelm, anxiety, frustration, sadness, fatigue….maybe we even give up, doubt our worthiness, think we've failed, judge ourselves for not being where we thought we'd be, or believe "that thing" just won't happen for us.

Essentially by not trusting in the experience as a whole, we create unnecessary stress for ourselves. Instead of obsessing over how something is or isn't transpiring, we have to stay consciously committed to making the moment to moment choice to redirect our thoughts back to all the things in our lives that ARE occurring and thriving. Think of how much time and energy we lose by hooking into a particular thing that isn't developing the way we want it to…even when we know this time and energy could be spent way more productively!

Ultimately, the universe wants us to have everything we want and then some. But when we hold on too tightly or live with a lack mentality we block ourselves from receiving, we block our intuition and creativity, we miss the opportunities right in front of our faces and we miss out on the fun of the journey!

It takes a lot of faith to allow things to unfold naturally and it's not always easy. I mean, we want what we want when we want it, and our brains have habitual thought patterns of their own (this is why we meditate, so we can reprogram the patterns), but it is essential to our well being that we train ourselves to live with a deep knowing that everything will work out for our highest good, even when it doesn’t look the way we thought it would.

Of course, there will be times when you seemingly do everything right and things still don't work out the way you wished they had. That's okay! I mean, how many times in your life has something happened that at the time you thought was the worst and in the end wound up being the best? Whether it was an experience or ending that pushed you to grow, heal, learn, or step up, it opened you up and paved the way for something new and better.

The key to getting what we want is to feel good now…and when we celebrate what's going well in our lives and place our focus on all that we DO have, we evoke an energy of abundance, we have more fun, we feel more relaxed about life, and we attract more of the good stuff towards us.

Use this week's meditation whenever you find yourself caught up in limiting beliefs or when you feel like things aren't going your way. It will help you to get back in touch with your center, in addition to finding calm, removing obsessive negative thinking, disharmony within your body, and will also work to heal addictive patterns of the mind.

Sit in easy pose or if that's uncomfortable for you, sit in a chair or even lean up against a wall.

Interlace your fingers, bring your palms directly against the center of your chest, thumbs up and elbows out to the side.

Close your eyes and focus up and in at your brow point.

Take a deep inhale through the nose, hold in the breath and visualize light flooding through a particular area of your life or body where you wish to dissolve negativity.

Exhale through the nose when you can no longer comfortably hold the breath.

Inhale again through the nose and hold; visualize the light clearing out the dark energy.

When you can no longer comfortably hold the breath, exhale through the nose. Do not strain!

Continue this cycle for 3-11 minutes.

Happy Meditating!

With Love & Gratitude,

Melody
