Meditation Mondays: Finding Humor

"Life literally abounds in comedy if you just look around you." --Mel Brooks

You know that feeling when you laugh so hard you can barely breathe, your eyes tear, you can't see how you'll ever be able to stop because whatever the thing is, is that funny in the moment?? When was the last time you laughed like that?

There's a lot of pressure and intensity on the planet right now and there are forces working hard to pull us into more fear and stress. Life isn't meant to be so serious.

Laughing (especially at ourselves) is one of the most important gifts we can give ourselves and the people around us, and there is truth in, "laughter is the best medicine." It balances our glandular system (which directly effects our happiness), reduces stress, strengthens the immune system, and has countless other benefits to physiological and psychological well-being. When we widen our perspectives and have the capacity to find some kind of enjoyment, hilarity, and amusement in everyday life (and in ourselves) we'll feel better, do better, and have a better experience as a whole. Ultimately it's a win-win, and there's a strength and power in having the ability to laugh no matter what life is throwing at us.

For this week's meditation, make yourself laugh out loud for 3 minutes. Even when nothing seems funny…especially when nothing seems funny. Set a timer and just force it. It will feel really weird and silly and awkward but just do it. Three minutes, laugh out loud, by yourself, see what happens.

Happy Meditating!

With Gratitude,

Melody
